Bones Magazine x Filth Fm

Bones Magazine presents a series of six sets from Filth Fm, An experimental pirate radio station from the city of Leeds in the UK. Filth Fm was set up by Toiletboy and Eloise G as a way for them to try out new ideas on a defunct medium. They took their inspiration from Polish radio from the 1930’s and concentrated on creating a platform that allowed them and the people they worked with to push radio forward. They ended up working with people all around the world, letting them create show and implement ideas that challenged tradional radio.

Filth Fm was run from a few housing estates in Leeds but its mission was global, being pirate afforded them the luxury of not being bound by broadcasting laws. They would broadcast kids show and open university lecture and generally plunder the wealth of content available to them in 2003. Shows were sent to them via the post and they would broadcast them over the week creating a new kind of pirate radio. A lot of strange sounds would land in their post box and Bones Magazine is very happy to presnt
six of them for you.

There will be a feature on Filth Fm in the next issue of Bones Magazine. Expect some seriously interesting insights into the world of pirate radio and the fucked up things that happend at Filth Fm like their transmitter burning party & their international
post-graffiti gallery. We’ll be podcasting one show per week. Enjoy

I’m Rick James ‘get my magazine’ BITCH

I’ve just woken up from the weekend, perhaps the best weekend ever. Saw the milky way, ate some good food, danced with ultra good friends and left with most of my dignity. I’ve got an amazing bruise which I’ll take some photo’s of in a bit. Cant remember how or when I got it, Sarah really seemed to like it, apparently, it makes me look double hard! I think it makes me look ill, not in that good ‘hip hop’ way but more in a ‘you should go and see a doctor’ kind of way.

Ok, quick life update. Got a chat with the best creative director in London about ‘a cunning plan’, sounds vvvv interesting! After taking 2 months off to do Bones Magazine, I’m floating around the work market to get a job. As most will know the last place was like forcing cockroaches into your own eyes. BAD NEWS! I’m losing my life to MIT OpenCourseWare (learning all kinds of new and amazing things), Other than that, everyone else is mad good!, if you’ve noticed a slight hip hop twang in this post, I’m getting in role to interview a massive hip hop star for the next issue of

Its been a while!

Hello Hello

well its been a while eh? well I’ve been crazy busy getting bones finished, we’ve got some great interviews. PixelH8, V/vm, Robin Porter from Immigrant Records who’s also doing the first Audio Podcast, Hak from the NKA talking about being gay and painting trains, the Intrud3rs urban explorers from Paris… God there’s so much in fact its 70 odd pages long. The First video artist is Studio Seen from up north. iTunes told us that we’re included in the podcast directory, cool!

On a personal, i stop working in the hell hole i was at over a month ago! man was it bad! but in a classic shot in the foot I’m now ‘in between jobs’ and man it totally sucks. so if you need a happy designer/art director/jack of all trades drop me a line! because i totally need to buy the new hunting jacket from FUCT, its going to come with hunting orange embroidery, cool! I’m getting much better at meditating and lucid dreaming!

Anyway, enjoy the ad I made for Bones and its out at the end of the week!!

Type Experiments Letter 1a?

effe, originally uploaded by tguzzle.

Typographic experiments, 3d letterforms. The principle is to destroy legibility, to challenge the viewer to decode the letter. I expanded the basic structure to break from the pseudo-illegible and really push the underlying frame to its limits, though this letter is the most extreme it is a good example of what I’m trying to create.
Which Letter is it??

Right i’ve been quite convinced that we’re in the future, just go and have look, i’ve got my midi shoes on, conected by wifi, i can controll the internet with a little tango. Recent advances with tech have lead to techniques that were unimaginable two weeks ago, nintendo have created the future of music and this show that the individual is now able to actually conntect with electronic music as never before and individuals are creating thinks that look like the start of something amazing, i reckons we’ll have a few more genre’s coming out of the techno bubble around idm.

Please have a look at this its the future!

It has been a interesting journey and I’ve learnt alot and met people that i’m very glad i met. But its a new year for and this year, I want the things that i worked so hard for and sacrificed things for. Philosophy and making music and coming up with ideas. Three things for three years.

Alan Fletcher – 1931-2006.

ALAN, originally uploaded by tguzzle.

Alan Fletcher was my hero all the way through college and uni, when i got a copy of The Art of Looking Sideways, i was blown away. It was a defining moment in my life and gave me something to work towards. To try to reach the level that he had reached in career. Then for Three Magazine’s religon issue i contacted him and asked him if he’d do an illustration for me. I was on the bus when my phone rang from a number i didn’t know. It was Alan Fletcher asking me what I’d like for the magazine, Mouth went dry, stumbling my words and i was so in awe that i think he could tell, he was the nicest guy. we spoke on the phone a few more times and i was so made up that my hero called me and did work for me. Alan Fletcher was an inspiration and a true legend in our field. We owe him a lot. Alan you will be greatly missed.

String theory: Is it science’s ultimate dead end?

The most ambitious idea ever outlined by scientists has suffered a remarkable setback. It has been dismissed as a theoretical cul-de-sac that has wasted the academic lives of hundreds of the world’s cleverest men and women. Check it!

I guess there no point even trying

Every now and then someone comes up with an idea that makes you go

‘why didn’t i think of that!’

(*pinching myself hard)

Jeni Mattson, has absolutly killed it with the lockpick business card. its so good i want to cry! check the pic and follow the link! heres what Jeni’s site says

A hacker, entrepreneur, and all around mischief maker, Melvin wanted something he could give to peers and prospective clients that spoke of this nature.

A lockpick concept was chosen very early on, and the post production results were excellent. The picks can quite easily be removed from the card and are entirely functional as lockpicks.

Its Bloody hellfish!!!

Bloody hell. The man behind deathchant records and my favourite producer!, the man is dark! a Bastardization of hip hop and gabba. Hellfish has spawned many imitators but he is the true creator, he has gone the way of the homeboy and was the wolfman with the iron hand. Tendancy to speed drinking and a rude atttiude. Hailed as the compression warrior of the toilet wars. Its been a journey of force (bastard mix).

BABY ART

After Matmos, i was listening to V. Snares. nothing more to be said!

Skream’s Album

scream_lp_ad.jpg

Well i was listening to him the other day on rinse, show went down. Skream is a sub bass monster! he pushes the buttons on the heaviest tunes out there. On a level, h’s bringing out he’s album on the 16th of october. cant wait, rizla’s and ribena i think!

this is what his label is saying!

“No man can keep Skream down right now as he unleashes a slew of new dubs for the dancefloor. The latest instalment in the Skreamizm series sees Blipstream, Welcome 2 The Future, 0800 Dub, Deep Concentration, Morning Blues and Dub Period. Skream is currently working on his much anticipated debut album due for release later this year. For sneak previews check him on Rinse FM’s ‘Stella Sessions’ launched recently with the immortal line: ‘welcome planet Earth to the Skream show’.”

What does the WD in WD-40 stand for?

Just started listening to the Brain Food podcast, amazing. want to know how to submarnies go down, how printers work, stop nose bleeds, and a host of other cool stuff. O, and the WD stands for water displacement.

“Einstein said, “Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it”. At the Brain Food Podcast, our goal is the pursuit of that wisdom. Each week we will explore fascinating topics from everyday life and use science and mathematics to better understand the wonders all around us”
